​The Modern Tour gets its name from the fact that it explores the part of central Madrid where you can see many examples of the efforts made by king Charles III during the 18th century to modernise and expand the city.

 

On this tour, you’ll learn about the history behind some of Madrid’s most recognisable landmarks from that era, including The Bank of Spain, Paseo del Prado and The Gate of Alcalá, as well as more recent additions such as the Metropolis building and the Palace of Cibeles.

 

You’ll also learn about some of Madrid’s best art museums - the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza, and visit the house of Miguel de Cervantes, often referred to as the Shakespeare of the Spanish language.

Like many walking tours in Europe, this is a FREE TOUR, We call it free, as you're free to decide how much to pay for it at the end of your experience, which means you don’t pay upfront. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the best of Madrid, regardless of their budget.

 

That’s why our free tours operate on a “pay what you feel is fair” basis. We appreciate any tips you can offer, to show your appreciation, but loud applause and recommendations are just as valuable.

Duration

​The tour lasts approximately two and a half hours. As it is a walking tour, you'll have to be on your feet for most of the time, but the distances are short and is suitable for all ages.
